Matara, in the other direction, is the nearest large town, with reasonable shops and a good private hospital (Asiri). Good international schooling remains some drive away, close to Galle but we’re excited to see the early shoots of a Galle-esque revival within the Fort at Matara; something that may significantly shift social and cultural life nearby.

Access to the Southern Expressway is quite direct from the house and so drive time’s to Central Colombo and the International Airport are around 2 hours 40 minutes.

That Expressway, of course, if taken in the other direction now quickly takes you to gorgeous lesser seen parts of the island - the Deep South, Yala National Park, and beyond - and opens access to the high Hill Country.
